Before they can get physical, Benson ushers Valerie into the elevator as Stabler pins Miles against the wall. Tessa denies telling him again realizing they do not believe her. Valerie refuses to use her young daughter, Tessa, as a witness, and since Miles has no history of violence, he is soon released. The rape kit was positive for intercourse, but negative for semen. Valerie claims Tessa loves her and Miles and questioning her will force her to choose between them. Valerie orders them to stay away from Tessa since they have already questioned her. Stabler believes Tessa transferred the hairs from her visit. Miles is infuriated that Valerie is trying to deprive him of his freedom after taking everything else from him. Detectives Briscoe and Curtis investigate a possible murder when a woman hears an answering machine message saying the caller is responsible for killing someone by the name of DeeDee. Cragen tells the detectives to investigate Valerie further. It turns out Anderton may have something of his own to hide. While standing in the doorway of Tessa's bedroom, Valerie, her mother, tries to explain Miles has issues he is not dealing with making him untrustworthy. The eventual suspect has a very influential grandfather who fiercely resists the prosecution. Cragen wants to know why the judge denied the request. She runs off and reports the tape message to the police. Tutuola joins them informing Stabler Kathy called. Some digging reveals that Dee-Dee was a 5-year old girl who was killed in a fire. The episode is partially based on the Roger Hargrave case. However, Miles still claims that he did not rape Valerie. The detectives investigate the case of a mother and her ten-year-old daughter who were found brutally murdered in their apartment. During a scheduled supervised visit with her father, Miles Sennet, Tessa exercises with him until he is too tired to continue. Munch and Tutuola find a receipt for a GPS tracker in Miles' apartment. Valerie stresses her ex-husband was in her home and raped her before asking why they have not arrested him. Jenner explains to Munch and Tutuola that she has picked Tessa up, supervised the visits, and taken her home for the past 6 months.
